  • How I Stopped Obsessing Over My Weight

    January 27, 2015

Years ago, I decided to stop weighing myself. Why? Because it made me obsess about a mere two or three pounds. Now, I just use my clothes as a weight gauge. If my clothes are too tight, I cut back. If they fit just right, I keep it movin’!

I was surprised to find that Molly Sims also recommends this technique in her new book The Everyday Supermodel.

2 Must Haves for Any Cleaning Task

    December 8, 2014

The other day, my husband brought home a Scrub Daddy, a birthday gift from one of his co-workers. I must have had “a what a stupid gift” look on my face, because my husband, immediately said, “you have to see the video.” I reluctantly watched the video, and thought, “huh, that’s kinda cool, especially if it actually works.”

Does it work? Yes it does. A sink full of warm water, a few squirts of Dr. Bronner’s Castile Liquid Soap, and the Scrub Daddy easily removed all the burned-on food particles and grease from my cooktop surface, burner grates, and burner caps! I am definitely making this little guy a stocking stuffer this year.

DIY: Easy Wine Cork Wreath for Less Than $20

    December 6, 2014

A few years ago, I saw a wine cork wreath at Breaux Vineyards. Ever since, I’ve been saving my wine corks to try and make one. After collecting more than four freezer bags full–don’t judge me–I finally made the attempt.

Can you DIY? Yes! It was so easy to make. Step 1, pop in your favorite Christmas movie, and hot glue wine corks all willy nilly on a styrofoam wreath form until you can’t see anymore styrofoam. Then, hot glue a seasonal bush/stem (mine is from Michaels) to the corks.

For the next wine cork wreath, I’ll use a straw wreath form, or wrap the styrofoam wreath with fabric to speed up the gluing process.

    Level of Difficulty: Easy

    Creativity/Artistic Ability: Little to None

Total Cost: $17 (not inlcuding the wine drank to get the corks)

  • A Kraft Paper Christmas

    December 1, 2014

This Christmas, I will finally use kraft paper to wrap my gifts. I’ve wanted to use it for years, and lately, I’ve seen it in use everywhere! Since I’m finally out of the jumbo role of Christmas wrapping paper I bought from Costco more than four years ago, it’s gonna be a kraft paper Christmas, and I can’t wait!

  • Towel Storage Solution

    April 2, 2014

Tired of cold, wet, naked walks to the linen closet? Me too!

When I couldn’t find a towel storage solution that 1) was relatively inexpensive, 2) could fit in a small space or behind the bathroom door, and 3) would prevent my husband and I from having to to leave the shower to get a clean towel or wash cloth, I created my own solution. Combining the Container Store 3-Tier Mesh Wall Sorter and a basket from the Polytherm Grid System, with an overdoor hook positions clean towels and wash cloths within easy reach of our shower. No more cold, wet, naked walks to the linen closet!

Wall-mounting hardware is included with the 3-Tier Mesh Wall Sorter too, so you’ve got options.
